My name is Thalia Ortiz and I am the author and founder of Thriftybelleza.com. 

I'm 22 years old and recently graduated from Rutgers University. In the summer of 2013, I discovered my passion for digital journalism as a web intern for Cosmo for Latinas. Although I reside in New Jersey, New York will always be home and I am the epitome of a city girl. My friends and family would describe me as a petite and proud bilingual Latina (Ecuadorian and Puerto Rican to be exact) with big dreams.

A: Originally the blog started as a creative outlet meant to express my love for cosmetics, but is growing everyday into a go-to spot for women who seek affordable beauty.

That's where I drew the inspiration for my blog's name. In Spanish, belleza means beauty. Growing up, I was always taught by my mother that quality makeup and skincare doesn't have to break the bank. By having a thrifty mindset, I was raised to always keep my eyes and ears open for the best deals. Basically, drugstore beauty aisles and even flea markets became my bestfriends, haha! As an admittedly beauty obsessed and broke college student, this has not changed. However, back then I could not find inexpensive beauty products when I flipped through the pages of a magazine and struggled a bit to find lo bueno, bonito y barrato (good, pretty and cheap). I realized that today, other people might share similar experiences, so I write this blog to help in the search for quality bargain beauty.

Even though you may not currently have the money to afford expensive brands, beauty does not have to be limited to this. It's about how you use the beauty products that you can afford, owning them, and making them work for you in the best way possible. My mission is to help anyone look fabulous and become a Thrifty Belleza while saving some cash along the way! That's why on this blog you will find where the killer sales are, product reviews and tutorials on how to use on the best beauty products for your budget.
